Thank you for purchasing The Witness® Vehicle Protection System.  The Witness is a comprehensive system designed to give you increased control and enhanced security of your vehicle.  This page is intended to give you a ‘quick start’ providing you with what you need to know to begin using The Witness.  Please refer to the User Guide for a more detailed description and operation manual of The Witness Vehicle Protection System. 

Logon

a)   Have your wallet card for The Witness (provided by your dealer) ready!

b)   Did your dealer provide you with a User ID and Password?  Your “User ID” may be indicated in the space on the reverse of your wallet card, or along with a temporary password on a separate document provided by your Dealer.  If yes, please proceed to ‘Setting up your Account”.

c)   On a computer with an Internet connection and using Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer, visit http://www.thewitness.net and select the
Login to The Witness link.

Create a User ID

a)   On the Login page, select the ‘Create a User ID (New Users)’ link.

b)   Follow the steps on screen to proceed.  You will be required to read the Terms and Conditions and indicate your consent by clicking on the ‘I Agree’ button at the bottom of the document in order to continue.

c)   On the Create Account screen, fill out your account information including your e-mail address.  A valid e-mail address is required.

d)   Enter the ESN (Electronic Serial Number) of your system.  This is the 20 digit number found on the back of your wallet card.

e)   Enter the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of the vehicle on which The Witness system has been installed.  This can be found on your vehicle ownership documents. (The VIN can also often be found in the corner of the windshield, or in the doorjamb.  All vehicles have a VIN number present and visible.)  This is used to identify your vehicle on The Witness system.

f)    Click Continue to proceed.

g)   Select a Service Plan, Transaction Package and Extended Warranty option from the pull-down list, and select Continue.

h)   Enter your billing information for this purchase and select Continue.

i)    Confirm your purchase and select Continue.

j)     You may print your Purchase confirmation for future reference.  Please note the “User ID” and temporary “Password” in the corner of the confirmation – do not lose this information!  You can record your “User ID” on the back of the supplied wallet card.

Setup your Account

a)   Please enter your “User ID” and “Password” and select Login.

b)   You may be requested to change your password and/or select a new security question.  Select continue when complete.

c)   You are now able to setup different features of The Witness to suit your personal requirements.  You may:

         Adjust your Account information.  Select the Account menu to make changes to your contact information, select a Time Zone and Vehicle Label, and change your password.

         Setup your Vehicle details.  By selecting the Vehicles menu, you can setup individual vehicle details within your account.  Select your vehicle from the Vehicles Tab in the lower window, and select ‘Edit’.  You may now fill in a personalized name, license plate or other identification to each vehicle.  When you are ready select ‘Apply’ to save your changes.

         Configure your Notifications. Use the Notifications menu to enable each desired notification message you wish to receive.  To enable a notification, select the ‘Enable’ checkbox beside the notification you desire and enter a phone number (if desired) and/or an email address (if desired).  You may also enter a custom message that will be sent with the notification.  Select ‘Apply’ when you are satisfied with your changes.

         Setup Vehicle Parameters. Use the Setup menu to configure and activate vehicle parameters such as Drive Zone and/or Speed Limit.  Select your vehicle from the Vehicles Tab in the lower window and select ‘Edit’.  To initiate or change a vehicle parameter, click the ‘Select’ checkbox next to the parameter(s) you wish to alter.  Make your changes by selecting an option in the provided fields, then select ‘Apply’ to activate the change(s).  While The Witness is contacting your vehicle to establish these parameters, the changes will show in the Pending Changes window at the right of the screen.

Performing an Action

a)   Select your vehicle from the Vehicles Tab in the lower window by clicking on the checkbox beside the vehicle name.

b)   Select the action to be performed by pressing the appropriate button (Locate for example) at the top of the screen.

c)   Confirm your selection by selecting ‘Ok’.

d)   Your pending action will populate the Action Progress Tab in the lower portion of your screen.  When complete you can view the result on the map by selecting the ‘Map’ button, or the ‘Home’ button from the main menu.
